Ongeveer een jaar later sloten Mehmet\u2019s moeder en twee broers zich bij hem aan. Maar Mehmet wilde niet gaan. Hij koos ervoor om naar de universiteit in Adana, Turkije te gaan en studeert daar bouwkunde. De anderen zijn inmiddels naar Syri\u00eb teruggekeerd. Farah is nu de enige van de familie in Turkije. Hier heeft ze namelijk haar man Halit ontmoet. Hier studeert hij Turks in het plaatselijke centrum van de Rode Halve Maan. Dit doet hij samen met zijn oudere broer en zusje. Hij speelt al een paar jaar de luit en verdient nu bij als muzikant. Hij hoopt er op een dag van te kunnen leven.
